Floor area drains in open parking areas, including open areas of parking ramps, shall discharge to the storm sewer or to a place of disposal satisfactory to the sewer authority. If a sump is used, it shall be outside the pit with a dry pan drain flowing to it.Ĥ18.7 Garage and Parking Area Floor Drains. An elevator pit drain shall discharge to the sanitary sewer using an indirect connection that precludes the possibility of sewage backup into the pit.

UPC section 418 is amended by adding the following subsections.Ĥ18.6 Elevator Pit Drain. An alternate material or method of construction so approved shall not be considered as in accordance with the requirements, intent, or both of this Code for a purpose other than that granted by the Authority Having Jurisdiction where the submitted data does not prove equivalency. However, the exercise of this discretionary approval by the Authority Having Jurisdiction shall have no effect beyond the jurisdictional boundaries of the Authority Having Jurisdiction. Unless prohibited by this code or by law, the Authority Having Jurisdiction shall have the authority to approve or disapprove the system, method, or device for the intended purpose. Design and materials for special conditions or materials not provided for herein shall be permitted to be used only by special permission of the Authority Having Jurisdiction after the Authority Having Jurisdiction has been satisfied as to their adequacy. Where a standard covers materials of various grades, weights, quality, or configurations, the portion of the listed standard that is applicable shall be used. Standards listed or referred to in this chapter or other chapters cover materials that shall conform to the requirements of this code, where used in accordance with the limitations imposed in this or other chapters thereof and their listing. Each length of pipe and each pipe fitting, trap, fixture, material, and device used in a plumbing system shall have cast, stamped, or indelibly marked on it the manufacturer's mark or name, which shall readily identify the manufacturer to the end user of the product.
